Citizen engagement through visual participatory processes

Angažovanje-gradjana-ENGTarget groups of this Project are local-level stakeholders in the six municipalities which received support of minimum two SDC projects:

Four municipalities in the MDP area – Doboj, Doboj Istok, Doboj Jug and Gracanica – which received support of MDP and ILDP;

Two municipalities in the GOVWADE area which received support of GOVWADE and ILDP – to be decided among the four municipalities: Bosanska Krupa and  Kostajnica

Objectives of the Project:

  1. To identify under what circumstances citizen participation leads to deepened democracy, reconciliation, and women’s empowerment.
  2. To create space for reflection and dialogue that facilitates stakeholders’ learning about their own citizenship.
  3. To give participants control over how to shape, articulate and use material about their experiences of citizen participation.
  4. To assess and illustrate where the strongest and most important lessons (both positive and negative) about citizen participation, in relation to SDC programmes, have been learned.

This process will combine digital storytelling and participatory video. Digital storytelling will be used to illicit individual narratives about participant’s perspectives on participation and local governance. After the digital storytelling workshops, a group of representatives of all key stakeholder groups will participate in a participatory video process, which will involve the collective analysis and synthesis of the stories created through the digital storytelling process. The participatory video(s) produced will be more focused on articulating a common set of ideas emerging from the stories.
